Cats, Dogs, and what’s coming up

Laura, my greyhound, reminded me that I’m a slacker and need to let you all know about the paws-itive pet oriented things that are happening.

So, here’s what’s coming up for the pet public over the next couple of weeks:

Cats on Tour: Bangor Humane Society

The Bangor Humane Society has cats who need homes, so they’ve developed this cool outreach project. Look for the brightly decorated van and head out to meet the kittens and cats available for adoption. Kittens are $100 and adult cats 7 months and older are free.

Tour schedule follows:

  • September 28: Green Acres Kennel Shop, Bangor, Noon-4 p.m.
  • October 1: Camden National Bank, Hampden, Noon-4 p.m.
  • October 5: Camden National Bank, Hermon, Noon-4 p.m.
  • October 13: Orono Rabies Clinic, Orono with Veazie Vet, 9-11 a.m.
  • October 20: Bear’s One Stop, Newport, Noon-4 p.m.
  • October 26: Broadway Vet, Bangor, Noon-4 p.m.

Fall Pet Portraits: September 30, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Furry Friends Food Bank will be the benefactor from a pet portrait event held at Green Acres Kennel Shop on Sept. 30 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Registration is required to secure the purrfect spot. Photos will be done by Bell Imaging & Design (that’s me) and $10 from each 20 minute session (or $20 from a 40 minute double session) will go to the food bank. Read more about it here.

Gallivant with the Greyhounds: September 30, Noon-2 p.m., Capital Park in Augusta

This is the fifth year that Maine Greyhound Placement Service has hosted its annual Gallivant with the Greyhounds event. Hounds, their people, and other people and pets are welcome to come and join the parade around Capital Park in Augusta. Meet by the Veteran’s memorial. For more information, email Sharon Eugley at timonie2@aol.com. Funds raised from this event are used to care for the 40+ greyhounds at the facility in Augusta.

Paws on Parade: October 6, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Bangor Waterfront

This 19th annual event is Bangor Humane Society’s biggest event of the year. Come out, strut your stuff, engage in dog-related activities, and have a howling-good time. Find out more information or register for the event here.

The 15th Annual Paws in the Park: Oct. 7, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Animal Refuge League is hosting its 15 annual dog walking event, Paws in the Park, at Payson Park in Portland. Walk begins at 9 a.m. and after there will be lots of fun dog-related activities for the entire family.
